Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. The loss of hair, changes to the skin and other appearance-related side effects of cancer can be crushing for many women going through treatment. But it does not have to take away her self-confidence.
Norman Regional Health System is teaming up with the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association and the Personal Care Products Council Foundation to offer female cancer patients in Cleveland County a world-wide program and support group called Look Good… Feel Better.
The free Look Good… Feel Better program enlists the help of licensed cosmetologists from the Moore/Norman area to teach female cancer patients in active treatment how to cope with the changes in their appearance. These cosmetologists donate their time and skills to help women with everything from filling in an eyebrow lines to finding a wig or other hair accessories that works best, all done in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Mysterious Menus: Restaurant Food That Sounds Healthy, May Not Be
They seem like safe, healthy choices: a green salad, a garden fresh pizza or a tasty sushi roll. But what you may think is good for you on a restaurant menu, may be loaded with fat, sugar and calories.
Norman Regional dietitian Keri Hale, RD/LD, said that sometimes what traditionally is thought of as healthy options are not so, especially at restaurants.
“The calorie, fat and sugar content of some of menu items is even surprising to me, as a dietitian,” Hale said.

HealthPlex Open House Makes a Splash
Nearly 3,000 people showed up for Norman Regional Health System’s celebration of the new HealthPlex specialty hospital. The HealthPlex Community Open House was a huge success and the perfect opportunity to show off the new hospital, located off Interstate 35 on Tecumseh Road.
During the two and a half hour open house, visitors toured the $130 million dollar facility that will soon be home to three specialties offered through Norman Regional Health System. The Heart and Vascular Institute, the Orthopedic and Spine Center and the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion will all be housed at the HealthPlex. Visitors also got a behind-the-scenes look at areas such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, state-of-the-art operating rooms, patient rooms and more.
